EARLY TREATMENT OF CHILDREN
Children should have an orthodontic consultation by the age of seven. Review patient #1, #3, #7, #8 #9 and #11 to see the difference early treatment can make for your child.  By the age of seven child can be evaluated for any overbites (excessive vertical incisor overlap), cross bites, or crowding that may be present.

Advantages of early orthodontic treatment may include the following:

  • Increase self-esteem
  • Possibly eliminate the need for future jaw surgery
  • Avoid extraction of permanent teeth
  • Correct swallowing or speech  problems
  • Alleviate thumb or digit sucking habits
  • Improve the final result

Early treatment has decreased the need to extract teeth from 75% of all patients to about 25%.  And although early treatment can be of great benefit to the growing patient, it is never too late to improve your smile.
